quickly! I'll try to work my way back a bit. I always think my life is a little boring until i start trying to write down what's going on...

B was February student of the month. They had a nice little celebration at school. The kids get a key chain and the parents get a "bragging" bumper sticker that says "Student of the Month". The assistant principal... who i'm sure does not have adolescents in her home... told the 8th graders that this would be a great opportunity for them to talk with their parents about a car. At that comment, B looked over at me, smiled, and then shook his head "no". i had to nod my head in agreement with his assessment of his car situation. There are just some things you already know without asking when you are the third!
He and a friend are trying out for the Variety Show. He is playing piano and she will be singing "I Can Only Imagine". i almost tear up when i hear it on the radio, but it really pounds home when a couple of middle school kids are singing it in your living room. Cool! We'll see if they make it to the "big time". They already had to postpone their audition once because she was sick, so i hope they have the opportunity to give it a good shot. My official role.... the keyboard carrier! ;)
This past weekend i had the opportunity to participate in a silent retreat. What a nice way to get ready for Lent. The priest was so insightful.... one of those people who have lived their life well. i always feel like i just want to be a little mouse in their pocket for a day or two or more. Maybe some of their wisdom would rub off enough for me to get to the point of asking a meaningful question or two... Anyway, the whole thing was silent. I didn't talk with anyone - except God of course! :) - other than the priest one night because i had a question that needed answering. The only other talking i did around other people was praying at Mass and at the morning prayer services. We didn't even talk during meals. At first that was a little weird, but i ended up really enjoying it. Don't get me wrong, I love talking to people, but it actually was VERY freeing! There were absolutely no expectations! For a whole weekend i didn't ever need to worry about leaving anyone out of a conversation, or offending anyone, or putting my foot in my mouth! NICE!
While i was at the retreat, B and Jeff were at the pool. B had a swim meet. i got back in time to watch him swim Sunday afternoon. He had a great meet. What a treat to watch him in the pool. He keeps cutting a second or two here and there in about everything he is swimming. i'm always amazed as i don't swim much at all... ok... at all. I know it is a ton of work, but he makes it look effortless. He cut 30 seconds off his 1000 yard freestyle. That is a LOT of laps!
M comes home this weekend with some friends from college. i think things are settling down for her again. There was some "dorm drama" for some of her friends right away when they got back from break, so that made getting back into the college rhythm not so much fun. She had a visit from high school friends last weekend and that was a bright spot for her.

Glad you enjoyed your silent retreat. I plan to have that same experience (silence) in Quatamala. As our priest said, "Lent is not about dieting, and giving up, it is about strengthening our faith and belief system" Blessings from Williston!
