Wow! i think my life got stuck on fast forward. since i last wrote there's a new car, one less pickup, a trip to see Marilyn, a Brian Regan show (very funny), a friend's son in the starring role of his high school play, talks with friends, a Spanish test or two, visits from family, Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, Bible study, bike rides, cross country races, swim meets, a healed shoulder tendinitis, some serious garage cleaning, and more.... Yep, somebody definitely hit the fast forward button! If you'd like any of the details, just ask. I'd be happy to fill you in. However, i'd rather spend some time savoring a few blessings... in no particular order... and some important ones will be skipped... but if i wait too long that ol' fast forward button might get pushed again!
Friends... This summer and fall the reality of losing two good friends hit close to home. One, the husband of a good friend, had a close call with an ugly tumor that turned out to be benign. The other, a dear friend, had a near death experience as the result of a biking accident. (Did i say, "Wear your helmet!" loud and clear with that one!?!) Really wasn't ready for either one of them to go home. On a lighter note, my niece requested pecan pie for Thanksgiving. So i pulled out the PE-can pie recipe made with KA-ro syrup from my southern friend Ann. And with the recipe i pulled out a ton of great memories of her and her family. (By the way Ann, the recipe was a hit as usual.) So... yeah, i'm thankful for friends...all of them... As Ann used to say, " life would go on without them here, but it wouldn't be near as much FUN!"
Kids coming home... Marilyn has been able to come home really quit often. Our home kind of gets a charge of energy when she does. Braden is just pleased as can be to have a little more action than us old people provide. Sam has decided to come home for Christmas before he returns to Bolivia in January. i am so excited to have all three kids at home together. i never imagined how much i would enjoy that. [if you're reading this that does not give you permission to wreck the living room by acting like a bunch of puppies! :) ]
Alice...my recumbent bike. Until Jeff talked me into trying a recumbent bike this summer i hadn't really been able to bike for about 3 years. (My right leg would start going to sleep about 15 minutes into the ride) So far, Alice has 260 miles on her and 24 hours and the last time i rode i was able to average over 12 miles per hour for about an 8 mile ride. (That includes the big hill back up to our house.) YES! All this after being so sick in June and July that Sam and i had to stop 3 or 4 times on a bike ride 2 blocks long. Sam, i know you want snow when you come home, but maybe it could wait until we have a bike ride together. Alice would like to go for a spin with you!
And there's more.... so much more...

Here's a picture of Alice and me. It seems the guy who sold the bike to me fell in love with the bike when it came into the shop. The owner of the shop informed him he wouldn't get the bike, just like he wouldn't get the girlfriend he was after whose name was... Alice. So the bike was dubbed "Alice" and the name stuck. Oh, another note about recumbent bikes. Ladies, if you are ever after attention from middle-aged men or pre-teen boys (i'm not sure what "ladies" would fit into those categories???) ride a recumbent bike. i get stares (from both), "cool bike" (from the pre-teens) & "how do you like that recumbent? i've been thinking about getting one...."(from the middle-aged men). It happens every time i'm on the bike trails. Jeff thinks it's hilarious. i'm looking for a clever comment. Any ideas???
